How it plays

01

Pick your initiative

Pay to place council members on the initiative matrix. Choose Attack, Build, Trade, or Defend priorities for the round. Higher slots cost more but let you act first.

02

Place orders secretly

Give each tile with units a face-down order token: Defend, Disrupt, Move, or Bolster. All orders are revealed simultaneously.

03

Resolve by initiative

Take turns resolving one order at a time. Move units, harvest commodities, build structures, or disrupt neighbours. Pass early to earn bonus income.

04

Fight for contested tiles

Any tile with multiple factions resolves combat on the fight board. Hidden stacks, supporter alignment, blind and revealed retreats, morale stakes.

IN DEVELOPMENT

Open design. Rules not yet published

Planet Mongo is being designed in the open. Factions, unit stats, and the initiative matrix are defined. Innovation cards, event decks, and victory conditions are still being finalised through playtesting. The hex map generator is live now.

CORE MECHANICS

Simultaneous orders. Hidden stacks. Dynamic economy

Four interlocking systems drive every round of Planet Mongo.

Hidden orders
All movement is planned secretly, then revealed at once. Defend counters Disrupt, Disrupt counters Bolster. Every round is a mind game.
Initiative matrix
A 4x4 grid of priorities and slot costs. Higher initiative picks first but pays more. Trade rows earn coins instead of spending them.
Central market
Eight commodities (Ice, Water, Food, Wood, Stone, Metal, Energy, Gems) with dynamic pricing. Sell during the Action phase or spend to build.
Fight board
Multi-faction combat with combat zones, supporter alignment, and dice-based resolution. Retreats cost morale. Losing all units pays morale to survivors.
FACTIONS

Eight rulers. Eight regions. Eight ways to win

Each faction has a unique objective, starting position, VP formula, and stat distribution across 8 axes: Wealth, Population, Military, Science, Culture, Morale, Defense, and Biomes.

โšก
Magneticans
Ming the Merciless rules the Magnetic Mountains. Highest science, lowest defense. Starts with 6 innovation cards and a 10-card limit.
๐ŸŒฒ
Arborians
Prince Barin leads the Forest Kingdom. Highest population and defense, lowest science. Must build every available structure to win.
๐ŸŒŠ
Coralians
Queen Undina commands the Undersea Kingdom. Wealthiest faction with the most biome diversity. Starts with 175 coins and 8 submerged tiles.
โ„
Frigians
Queen Fria controls the Ice Kingdom. 22 glacial tiles to place. Must reach highest influence to score. VP from sheer territorial coverage.
๐ŸŒ‹
Volcanians
Desert Hawk rules the Firelands. Strong military, low culture. Starts wealthy but must hoard 100 ice to trigger their objective.
๐ŸŒด
Tropicans
Queen Desira leads the Jungle Kingdom. Highest wealth rank, jungle tiles worth 5 VP each. Must collect 50 gems to win.
๐Ÿฆ…
Hawkmen
Prince Vultan soars from Sky City. Lowest innovation limit (2 cards) but 36 oceanic tiles. Must control two tiles of each major biome.
๐Ÿฆ
Lionmen
King Jugrid leads the Land of Lionmen. Lowest starting resources (50 coins) but desert tiles worth 4 VP. Must control tiles producing 20 energy.
